Guru Purṇimā - full moon dedicated to honouring our teachers

Receiving birthday blessings from my Guru, Sri Vasudeva. April 2023
Today we celebrate Guru Purṇimā, that full moon which is dedicated to honouring and celebrating our teachers. This moon is thought to be the most auspicious, the moon that comes after the summer solstice. It is thought that at this time of year the moon has the most light to reflect, and that there is a profound effect on the mind with the mind being more receptive to wisdom.
It is said that it was on this full moon that Shiva, in the form of Adiyogi - the first yogi, transmitted the wisdom of yoga to his seven (7) disciples (saptarishis).
We honour the Guru who is the dispeller of ignorance, who has walked the path we wish to follow and who is a living embodiment of the teachings of yoga. Whilst we can celebrate Guru Purṇimā and honour all of our teachers, from our parents to the environment to teachers we have met throughout our life, for those of us who follow a yogic lifestyle we especially honour our spiritual teacher.
Today let us take time to observe our relationship with the Guru, a relationship that is grounded in integrity and honesty, truthfulness and trust, humility and a deep reverence. We can take this time to reflect on the wisdom we have gained from various teachers over our lifetime.
Blessings as we take time to contemplate the teachers in our lives and the relationships we have with them.
