30 days of gratitude
creativity

In the days leading up to my most recent yoga retreat I pulled my husband into yet another craft project. “Why are we making PlayStation icons?”, he asked. We weren’t. We were making palm stones with universal shapes on them.

Creativity is the prompt for day 7 of #Gratitude30. We are creative beings, the same spark that created all that is around us is also within us. Tapping into our inherent creative power allows us to lead more fulfilling lives. We discover within ourselves the ability to create new ideas, new perspectives, new ways of doing and being in our spaces.

In my own life I have found that tuning into myself through my yoga practice has helped me to connect more freely with my creative spirit. In years past I have shared that I never thought of myself as a creative person but now I know that I create experiences, meals, and opportunities for healing and growth. I create pieces of art and craft to share with others and for my own enjoyment.

Here are five (5) tips to connect with your creativity:

  1. Cultivate curiosity: Be open to new experiences, ideas and perspectives. Explore what interests you.
  2. Meditate: Build your awareness of the present moment and become aware of what is in your mental space. How receptive are you? How focused?
  3. Embrace solitude: Allow for quiet time to self. Daydream, reflect, imagine. Observe what insights arise when you spend time with yourself.
  4. Spend time in nature: Be inspired by all that nature offers - the moods, the colours, the beauty.
  5. Practise mindful creativity: Engage in activities like drawing, painting, writing, or crafting, where you focus on the process and enjoy the act of creation rather than just the end result.

There are many more ways that we can connect to our creative spirit. Share with me if your way is not on the list!
