The prompt for day 15 of #Gratitude30 is “emotions”. It invites us to build awareness of the range of emotions that we experience from day to day.

Building awareness of self is part of our yoga practice; this awareness and consistent practice allows us to manage our emotional wellbeing. We are able to shift perspective and develop the understanding that we are not our emotions, that our emotions are not the fullness of our experience, that we are having emotions and that they are temporary parts of our existence.

Two (2) ways in which we can use our practice to shift our emotional space:

  1. Focus on your breath - as we notice the flow of breath we can observe if we need to calm or if we need to lift our spirits. We can consciously work with our breath to soothe or energise the body
  2. Tune in to your body - observe what emotions are present and what sensations arise in the body because of them. Be guided by your teacher as to what asanas (postures) may be helpful
