Whenever I hear the term ‘constant vigilance’ I think of Professor Moody (Mad-Eye Moody) from the Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling. This character was an auror (wizarding law enforcement) and considered to be one of the best of all time. He taught the others to be more cautious and aware of their actions and the space they were in.

During this morning’s talk my Guru spoke of constant vigilance in terms of mindfulness. One must learn and practise:

  • building awareness of self - of our inner experiences and processes,
  • living in the present moment,
  • and witnessing - observing our thoughts and emotions without engagement, judgement or avoidance

Yesterday I found myself thinking about how we, in Trinidad and Tobago, now have to be hyper-vigilant due to the high crime rate in our country. We have to constantly be aware of how we manage ourselves, what we project, what we bring to the spaces we inhabit.

There are multiple ways of experiencing and expressing constant vigilance. I am holding the awareness of all of them in my space. I invite you to reflect on this as well.

peace,

Renee Arundhati
