Honing one's craft

My husband and I go through phases of viewing different channels on YouTube. There is so much content that is educational, inspiring, insightful, and of course entertaining. Recently we have been looking at a channel that shares about architecture and today’s viewing has led me to this post.
In the video we looked at the question was asked, “architecture versus building - what is the difference?”. It is an interesting discussion that goes into ideas of architecture, space, materials and how we engage with and experience them.
My husband shared that these ideas can be applied to many artistic professions and as I reflect on it I believe that it can be applied to all professions.
A client of mine returned recently from a trip to India where he spent some time in a program of yoga and ayurveda aimed towards his healing. “The yoga they gave me is the same yoga you do with me”, he said. It makes me smile because we have been working together for some years now. I am aware of what he is working on and working towards and thus I tailor all that we do - pranayama, asanas, relaxation and discussion - as we work together in our classes.
One can have the knowledge to construct a good building but for good architecture one has to have the training, the ideas and build experience in creating a building that is suited for the space it is in and engages others in a way that is meaningful.
One can have the knowledge of yoga, of asanas and pranayama, but to be a good teacher one has to have the training and the guidance of teachers, one must build an understanding of what works in different situations and for different abilities.
Thinking about this today as I reflect on my journey thus far. What do you think?
peace,
Renee Arundhati
