The second meetup of our reading club was this evening and I am so pleased with myself for starting it. So thankful for the space and for those who showed up.

This week has been very rainy, so much so that I have had a hard time convincing myself to leave home. I very much admire those who can face adverse weather and still do what needs to be done with regards to getting to work, moving around, doing everyday things. If the place is gloomy and the rain is falling heavily it takes quite a lot of energy to both convince myself that I should be moving and to get moving.

Although people had indicated they would be attending our meetup of The Quiet Chapter I was pleasantly surprised to see how many turned up considering how bad the weather has been. It did mean that the space was cozy, warm beverages were appreciated.

Our reading club is known as The Quiet Chapter - a name that my followers on social media helped me to choose. It’s based on the silent book club model and allows for people to spend time together while reading their choice of material. I particularly like that, that everyone can read whatever they like and we're not following a specific book. It allows for more people to share the space and, for me, the community building is an important part of this club.

We take thirty minutes to arrive, order our food or drinks and settle into our space. The following hour is given to silent reading and the next half hour to sharing about what has been read. Thus far there has been a grandmother and her teenage granddaughter, work friends, sisters and partners, individuals who have heard about it and showed up.

It has been a joy to open up this space, to learn about what others are reading, and to encourage more reading in community.

If you’d like to attend one of our meetups you can find more information and register here!

Happy reading!
