May's Community Potluck!
Renee Arundhati | MAY 19, 2024

My heart, and my belly, is full. Today we held our first community potluck of 2024 and I look forward to hosting another later in the year. The seeds of today's event were sown at January's Sereni-Tea with persons sharing how wonderful it would be to come together once again and to share with each other in community.
We had a lovely turnout made up of persons from January's event, some from my regular classes and some who have attended past retreats. Something that I found interesting was that almost every person was somewhat apprehensive about attending, with some wondering if they would fit into the space or if they would be welcome. They did and they were and at multiple points over the course of the afternoon they expressed how happy they were with their decision to attend.
It was interesting to me because, apart from one person's husband, I had previously interacted with each attendee. I feel that they all know, in some way or other, the kind of gatherings that I like. Peaceful, calm, welcoming, lots of tea and laughter. Over the past decade I have worked on my ability to create such spaces, safe spaces, brave spaces, creative spaces. Spaces where people can enjoy being themselves and being together. I think now I need to work on how to communicate that this is a skill I possess, and that this is the kind of gathering that one can expect if I am hosting.
May's community potluck was an afternoon where those who came into the space:
discovered that they had a lot in common,
were treated to a variety of food and drinks (including teas by HeartAnnSoul Selection)
shared what self care activities resonated with them (thanks to our card pulls from the Sacred Self Care Oracle)
After potluck snapshot: cards that were drawn, a bit of cassava cake, one of the menu cards listing ingredients and the five contemplations before eating by Thích Nhất Hạnh
Grateful for these opportunities to share, to connect and to build our community ♥️
