Meet your yoga instructor

Hello, my name is Renee and I've been a yoga instructor in Trinidad and Tobago since 2014...

Yoga is part of my cultural heritage - I am continuously learning, connecting and building both my understanding and my experience.

In 1993, through my mother's guidance, my family became very involved with the Blue Star (a non-profit, non-sectarian organization) which provided the opportunity to learn about yoga and also the wellness practices of different cultures.

In 2013, following the passing of my mother after a 17 year journey with cancer, I shifted careers and became a yoga instructor.

In certain spaces I am known as Arundhati Devi (learn more about this name) and sometimes I will sign my name as Renee, or Renee Arundhati.

My public classes are mostly āsana-based - they include prāṇāyāma (working with the breath), meditation and relaxation. They reflect how I learnt the physical practice with a focus on breath awareness, and the layers of the body.

I also like to make space - space to explore yogic philosophy and ourselves. I do this through my offerings of workshops, events and retreats.

My work is mostly with adults and especially older persons - my experiences with my mom have led me to focus a lot on healing and on working with persons of different abilities. I truly believe yoga allows us to embrace and live our lives fully.

I am certified with the Yoga Alliance, have trained with and am an ambassador for Accessible Yoga, and have been certified as a Yoga for All instructor. These last two trainings have allowed for a greater depth of understanding and ability to teach persons who are older, or who may have disabilities or infirmities.

Following my experiences of caring for and supporting my mother I have become more interested in learning about palliative care. This interest has inspired me to participate in a training workshop on palliative care hosted by the SMARA Cancer Support Group in 2019, to complete the LivHealth Caregiver training course in 2021, and in 2024 to attend and participate in the Practical Workshop for Informal Caregivers organised by the Palliative Care Society of Trinidad and Tobago.
